Meet the Herd: Patricia
Meet Patricia, a Justice Navigator at the Zebra Centre! Patricia tells us about her role, what she loves most about working with kiddos who visit the Zebra Centre and more!
Q: Tell us about your role as Justice Navigator.
Patricia: My role as a Justice Navigator involves supporting families while they are in the centre by doing court preps with kiddos, accompanying them in court, checking/updating files and putting them out for calls, connecting with families to make sure they are up-to-date with court dates and are feeling supported by the centre. I also get to work with other people around the centre when kiddos and their families come in for their forensic interviews.
Q: What does a typical “day in the life” as Justice Navigator look like?
Patricia: It varies day-to-day – but I usually connect with families to follow up and see if they need resources after court. In the morning, I usually assist families at the centre when they are here for their forensic interview. Throughout the day, I put out calls to support our families and make sure that they have the resources that they require after their visit with us. In the evening, I do court preps where we show kiddos what their day in court would look like.
Q: What do you love most about your role?
Patricia: I love that I am able to support families while they are going through a tough time. I especially love doing court preps with kiddos as I feel that as much as they are learning from us, I’m also learning from them!
Q: What is your proudest moment at the Zebra Centre so far?
Patricia: I definitely have lots of proud moments at the centre but I think I am most proud when families leave the centre feeling supported and heard.
Q: What motivates you to show your stripes (your why)?
Patricia: My number one motivation for showing my stripes would be helping out our kiddos and their families understand the court system and feel supported when they come to the Zebra centre.
Q: Lastly, share a surprising or fun fact about you
Patricia: I am bilingual, and I was born in the Philippines.
