Meet the Herd: Delaney

Meet Delaney, a Case Navigator at the Zebra Centre! Delaney shares with us all about her role as well as her passion for mental health and what it is like as Zebra’s Trauma Treatment Services (TTS) Liaison.

Q: Tell us about your role as Case Navigator.

Delaney: My role as a Case Navigator is a bit unique! Like the rest of the Case Navigators at Zebra (we used to be called coordinators) I do a bit of file work by checking each of our files for updates in court and putting them out to be called. But with my position I also get to be the Trauma Treatment Services (TTS) Liaison. So, I get to collaborate with our Alberta Health Services partners, as well as our partners at SAFFRON and other community support agencies to help our families find mental health and healing supports!

Q: What does a typical “day in the life” as Case Navigator look like?

Delaney: I am usually in the Centre bright and early! The first part of my day is checking for updates and putting out calls for the day, and meeting with kiddos and families when they first come to the centre. But the second half of my day is checking TTS referrals, contacting families directly, collaborating with our partners, and helping create resources for our families.

Q: What do you love most about your role?

Delaney: I love working with our families and finding the right support for them! Working one-on-one to collaborate on what they may need to help them heal is my favorite part of working with families. Whether that is mental health counselling, community support, or at-home resources.

Q: What is your proudest moment at the Zebra Centre so far?

Delaney: I have been involved with Zebra since 2021 when I started as a volunteer! So there have been a lot of proud moments throughout my time here. I would say my proudest moment was stepping into this new position! I have loved being able to work with families and our mental health partners; connecting families to resources within our community and make the whole process of finding healing supports a little less scary and confusing. I have loved every minute of this position and being able to work compassionately and collaboratively!

Q: What motivates you to show your stripes (your why)?

Delaney: What motivates me is working with families to help them heal. Families shouldn’t have to go through this alone, and I am proud to be a part of a team dedicated to supporting them in any way we can!

Q: Lastly, share a surprising or fun fact about you.

Delaney: I have been able to work at Zebra while working to complete a Master of Counselling! So, the mental health side of my job is very familiar to me!
