Pride Month: Featuring LGBTQIA+ Organizations in Alberta

Happy Pride Month, Zebra Herd! In spirit, we would love to feature some incredible LGBTQIA+ organizations based in Alberta. 

Each of these LGBTQIA+ organizations are doing incredible work to create comfortable and non-judgemental spaces that provide helpful resources and educational opportunities, as well as safety and support to so many.


Pride Centre of Edmonton - Based in Edmonton

The Pride Centre of Edmonton values creating a safe space that provides education, resources and a sense of belonging to all community members. 

A few of the services they provide:

  • Free counselling on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

  • Weekly opportunities to connect with others and learn more about topics related to gender, sexuality and more.

  • Help to provide information and make referrals for important services related to mental health, housing and much more.

The Chew Project - Based in Edmonton

The Chew Project works to provide support to 2SLGBTQ+ youth and young adults that are in need of the tools to heal and survive.

A few of the services they provide:

  • Access to clothing, food, hygiene items, sexual health supplies and more. 

  • STI testing by the Edmonton STI Clinic outreach staff.

  • Mental health support and crisis intervention.

Centre for Sexuality - Based in Calgary

The Centre for Sexuality has a goal of normalizing sexual health through informative programs and services that are available to all Albertans. 

A few of the services they provide:

  • Plenty of information about various topics such as gender identity, sexual orientation, consent and much more. 

  • Many educational workshops, programs and training opportunities for schools, workplaces, etc., to learn about a wide range of topics. 

  • Counselling services.
